Freedom Weekend is our weekend conference/retreat initiative.  Main themes are all created to take a man further up and further into the life God offers.

On the weekend we have three main objectives: help a man get his heart back, teach him how to fight, and show him where the battles are. To see Christ come for a man’s heart and what God is up to in validating a man, initiating him, and calling him into the larger story is truly a glorious thing. It is a fierce journey for every man, but one that desperately needs to be taken.

Come join the men who are hungry and thirsty for more. Men who are coming to God, to better know who they are in Christ, where they are living in the larger story, and that know the good God is up to in his life…A man that knows who he is, where he is, and what God is up to in his life is a dangerous man for good. The Kingdom ranks of believers need more men who know what it is to walk deeply with God.

Come join us and be one of the men who is seeking and finding more… There is more!

Weekend Essentials

This retreat is being led by The Journey Ministries Team and is designed exclusively for men.

Your registration fee covers your meals (including Thursday evening dinner) and all of the teaching and materials for the weekend.  Due to the nature and depth of the content and experience, this weekend is not designed for youth. We recommend that you be at least 18 to attend.

This weekend should not be viewed as a ‘father/son’ event, although fathers and sons are welcome to attend the same event together. Our recommendation, however, is that they participate in different weekends, at least for their first experience.

Lodging is available in Dayton (we suggest the EconoLodge). It is just a couple of years old and we’ve stayed there ourselves. It is currently $75-$85/night and is only 2.5 miles from the retreat center. You may also commute from home if desired.

Be prepared for both fair and foul weather.  You’ll have opportunities to get outdoors alone. Our location is remote and a great place to walk and has multiple places from which you can enjoy solitude.  In addition, we will have nightly bonfires.

To make your experience a pleasurable one, plan to bring the following:

  • Casual clothes

  • Adventure clothes

  • Jacket/Warm Clothes (for Fall Weekend)

  • Good walking shoes and/or hiking boots

  • Notebook/Journal, bible, and pen

  • Towel and toiletries

  • Chairs for sitting around the campfire in the evenings

  • Method of payment for any apparel or resources you may want to purchase

FAQs

Is it worth $100 and taking a day off of work?

We believe so, but if you think we’re biased check out the testimonials. In total we will feed you six meals, have snacks, drinks, and coffee available 24/7, provide you with a journal, pens, and materials, deliver high quality teaching sessions, make room for you to rest and recover your heart. We think that is worth it in a world that is pulling for your every ounce of attention and energy.

Should I bring a friend or come alone? Do I have to come with a group?

We highly encourage you to bring one or two friends or bring a group along to this event. In fact, we believe that having another man alongside will only serve to deepen the impact of the weekend as well as help you when you return home. If you do attend alone, no problem. There will be opportunities to meet other men at the camp.

So what is Freedom Weekend? A men’s retreat?

We believe that the concept of a weekend, where men are trained to find and take their place in life, best describes what this experience is all about. It’s a weekend for your heart. A time to awaken your heart, find the path of Life, and learn how to fight for your freedom & the freedom of others. It is the antithesis of a retreat. It’s not about retreating. We just couldn’t call this a retreat because the message is all about aggressively getting your heart back.

What’s going to happen while I’m there?

We believe that you are going to have one of the most significant, revolutionary experiences of your life. It will not be like any “men’s retreat” that you have ever attended. We promise…no fireside acoustic guitar hand-holding “Kum-ba-ya” stuff.

Are we going to do a bunch of military style activities?

No. But there will be a long free time on Friday afternoon that will give you time take advantage of any opportunities in the area.

Are there scholarships available?

Yes. If you would like to attend or know someone who would, we do not want money to be the reason you do not come. We have scholarship monies set aside for these situations. To request scholarship funds use the Contact Us form and let us know who you are, supply us with your contact information (we would like to talk with you), and briefly explain your situation. The only thing we ask is that the attendee invests something towards the cost of the weekend. Only they know what that is, so we ask them to simply pay what they can. All scholarship requests will be reviewed and discussed by the entire leadership team prior to approval.
